The Netherlands remains leading vegetable exporter; Spain tops fruit exports

The Netherlands is the 1st world exporter of vegetables, followed by the by Mexico and Spain.
The Netherlands maintained its leading position in the export of fresh vegetables, with Spain topping exports of fruit.
A study by Dutch site Tiunbouw place the Netherlands in first place in worldwide exports of fresh vegetables with 4.6 billion kilos in 2010. Exports, including transit, represented a value of 4.2 billion euros. The top exports are onions, tomatoes, peppers and cucumber. Germany is the largest customer
with 30% of the total purchased in 2010.
The second and third place is occupied by Mexico and Spain. Globally the most exported vegetables are onions, tomatoes and cucumbers.
For fruit, Spain ranks first place with 5.9 billion kilos and the Netherlands is eighth. Most exported fruits are bananas, apples and oranges.
