Spain, increase of summer fruit's crop

The productions of cherries and Morellos will increase in Spain this campaign by 10.1% compared to last year. Total crop is expected to reach 79,900 tons, according to data released by the Institute for Surfaces’ and Crops’ progresses updated at March 2008.
The other stonefruits will also register production growths: plums in particular are noteworthy, with +5.4% to 201,500 tons, followed by apricots, +3.1% reaching 89,400 tons, and peaches, +0.9% that is 1,169,700 tons.
On the other side, vegetables will register production drop: first of all tomato with a reduction by 1.3%, for an overall expected crop by 857,000 tons. This reflects the decrease of tomato invested surfaces in Spain by -7.5%.
Other crops decreasing will be artichokes, by 6% reaching 199,800 tons, and asparagus, -7.9% to 33,100 tons.
Early potatoes’ crop will diminish too, by 0.8% for a total of 372,300 tons, despite the surface has increased by 2.3%. on the contrary, surfaces invested at middle seasoned potatoes will reduce by 5.3% compared to the last campaign, for 45,531 total ha.
