Iranian pistachio production set to double in volume

According to recent estimates, Iranian pistachio production is set to double in the Iranian calendar year ending March 20, 2024.
Local media report that IPA (Iran Pistachio Association) is forecasting production of between 200,000 and 210,000 tonnes of pistachios in the Iranian calendar year ending March 20, 2024. This represents a 2-fold increase over the previous year.
This production volume is expected to generate sales of around 1.5 billion USD.
For several years now, climate change has been causing severe drought. Pistachio production fell by around 70,000 tonnes in the Iranian calendar year 1400, which ended on March 20, 2022. In the Iranian calendar year 1401 ending March 20, 2023, Iran exported only 56,298 tonnes of pistachios with an estimated value of 405.04 million USD to 57 countries.
