Almost ten percent of the agricultural land organic in 2009
Estonia

Organic production has grown rapidly in Estonia, one of the reasons being the financial support since 2000.
By 2008 organic land (approx. 87'000 hectares) was close to ten percent of all agricultural land in use, with 1245 organic producers. A new brochure informs extensively about the sector.
The size of organic farmland has expanded from year to year, to an average area of 70 hectares per farm. Estonia’s largest organic farm has over 1000 hectares of land.
In Estonia, organic land has expanded by eleven times since 2000, but processing and marketing has not kept up with this growth.
The Estonian Organic Farming Action Plan 2007-2013 and the Estonian Rural Development Plan 2007-2013 will contribute to the expansion of the organic sector in Estonia.
