The situation is unsustainable, according to professional agricultural organisation UNIO, based in the region of Valencia.
UNIO of Llauradors says that citrus prices are 26% lower this season than the previous one. Official data published by the Department of Agriculture confirms this situation.
UNIO notes that since the 2003-2004 season, except for the
periods 2007-2008 and 2009-2010, prices are trending downwards. Frosts this winter have affected nearly 29,000 fields in the area of 25,364 hectares, hitting producers.
According to producers, the situation is unsustainable and UNIO is requesting support from the authorities to prevent the collapse of the sector.
