Winter Pears : expected decrease for volumes but upward trend for prices
FJ
After an increase in pear production this summer, autum and winter pears production are planned to decrease.
SSF ( Service for Statistics and Forecasting ) estimates the production of pears to reach 138 500 tonnes (estimated on November 1 ) . This estimate is greater than 2014 but less than the average production of 2010/2014 levels ( -2%). However , there is divergence between the various productions : Summer pears recorded volume growth while volumes of autumn and winter pears are planned down (-3% and -5 % respectively).
This supply deficit in Fall / Winter pears will come to reinforce the expected downturn in the European offer (-3% according PROGROSFRUIT ) , and higher direct prices (already 6% compared to the average 2010-2014) .
