Turkish hazelnut exports generated US$ 1.5 billion of profit for the state treasury

Hazelnut turned out to be one of the most demanded Turkish products in 2007, Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) informs. The imports of Turkish hazelnut brought around US$4.1 mln. of profit to the treasury on a daily basis (i.e. around US$1.5 billion per year) in 2007.
It is interesting to mention that hazelnut was also the product which exports increased the most significantly in 2007. The export shipments increased almost 32% comparing to 2006.
According to the data of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits", Ukraine is a large importer of hazelnut; our country mostly purchase this product in Turkey. In 2006 hazelnut imports amounted to 2,800 tons for the total sum worth around US$21 mln. Turkish supplies amounted to 81% of the total volumes of the imported hazelnut.
