Potatoes for the PotatoEurope 2021 harvest demonstrations were planted for the very first time with a robot. PotatoEurope 2021 will be held on September 1 and 2 at the WUR (Wageningen University & Research) site in Lelystad (The Netherlands).
An important step in the preparation of the PotatoEurope 2021 event, the planting of the potatoes for the harvest demonstrations took place with ideal weather conditions. It was the 1st time that potatoes have been planted with the Agrointelli Robotti, an autonomous tool holder capable of performing various agricultural tasks independently. Designed as part of the Robotization project, a cooperation between WUR, Agrointelli and Dewulf, for which part of the PotatoEurope demonstration plot has been reserved.
The robot was responsible for pulling the Miedema CP 42 potato planter. After the start of planting work with the Robotti, the Ceres 440 AVR, Miedema Structural 4000 Dewulf and GB439 Grimme planting machines came into action.
These potatoes, of the Aromata variety, come from the Schaap Holland potato breeding and trading company, have a size of 35-50 millimeters and were planted with a spacing of 28 centimeters. They are grown on two plots with a total area of 25 hectares on the PotatoEurope 2021 site in Lelystad.
"With the planting of potatoes for PotatoEurope 2021, things become more concrete. We are very proud of this 1st absolute, the planting of potatoes with the help of a Robotti robot for the very 1st time. PotatoEurope 2021 in September, the Robotti will also harvest these potatoes "said Jacob de Jong, director of WUR Field Crops.
PotatoEurope is an international event dedicated to the entire potato production chain. The event takes place every year, in one of the four partner countries of the event: Germany, Belgium, France, the Netherlands. For the 2021 event on September 1 and 2, the organizers plan to welcome more than 275 exhibitors and around 16,000 visitors.
