Pakistan and Iran sign agreement to boost agricultural trade

The Iranian and Pakistani authorities have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop trade in agricultural products between the two countries. The memorandum of understanding notably provides for a new tariff system on imported products.
During the 9th meeting of the joint Iranian-Pakistani Trade Committee held in Zahedan (Iran), the 2 countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop bilateral trade. For the agricultural sector, the memorandum of understanding will make it possible to resolve quarantine problems and provides for a new tariff system on imported products.
Thus, Pakistan accepted a 5% import duty on Iranian apples. Professionals estimate that Iran could supply up to 500,000 tons of apples to Pakistan.
Iran will export apples and nuts to Pakistan, Pakistan will export mangoes, kinnows and rice to Iran.
The memorandum of understanding, in addition to a new tariff system on imported products, includes other actions aimed at improving trade between the two countries. In particular by improvements in the field of transport, by the implementation of a hotline to help the traders of the 2 countries and by the creation of 6 market places which will be established on the border between the Pakistani province of Balouchistan and the province Iranian from Sistan-Balochistan.
