The northern regions of Turkey, bordering the Black Sea, have an optimal climate for the production of hazelnuts.
KFMIB, the association of hazelnuts exporters and products of the Black Sea, has revealed that Turkey has gained about 135 million USD through hazelnut exports last month.
According to KFMIB in September, the first month of the season, hazelnut exports totaled 25,220 tonnes and sales totaled 135 million USD. Processed walnut exports worth US $ 69.4 million accounted for 48.6% of Turkey's total exports, the rest being raw hazelnuts.
The 1st market was the European Union, which received 77% of Turkish exports of hazelnuts. Last season, from September 2017 to the end of August 2018, Turkey exported 287,000 tons of hazelnuts for a value of 1.78 billion USD. Turkey is the world's leading exporter of hazelnuts.
