The use of new technologies and new varieties contributes to the expansion of the Indian production.
The region of Mahabaleshwar produces 85 % of the total production of strawberries in India. At the beginning of the month took place the 4th edition of the Festival Mapro Fraise, the event organized collectively by Food Mapro Ltd and All India Strawberry Growers Association which received more than 40.000 visitors.
“All India Strawberry Growers Association” (AISGA) is an association based in New Delhi to promote the culture of strawberries; the association counts more than 1350 members.
The production reached this season 15.000 tons, which is an increase with regard to the 9000 tons of the previous seasons. Good climatic conditions, more cultivated surfaces and the use of new technologies contributed to this development.
With the aim of a better return, imported varieties are studied in the Chajji floriculture Park, in the region of Uttarakhand. Recently, a variety imported by the Netherlands gave excellent results with bigger and more numerous fruits, and especially the possibility to make three harvests a year instead of one.
