Chilean fruit export season 2020/21 closed with a total of 2.5 million tons shipped

According to the Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile AG (ASOEX), the Chilean fruit export season 2020/21 ended with a total of 2.567.717 tons shipped to different global markets. These figures reflect a slight growth of 1.2% compared to the previous year.
Main markets
The main destination in terms of volume was North America (United States and Canada), with a total of 822.479 tons and a slight increase of 0.5% compared to last season. It was followed by Asia, with 737.434 tons, and an increase of 16.6%. Europe was in third place, with 511.846 tons, and a decrease of -7.5%. Latin America received 427.936 tons, -1.7% less than the previous season. The Middle East received 68.032 tons, a decrease of -28.2%.
In terms of countries, the top 5 destinations are the US, with some 776.533 tons received, China - Hong Kong with 521.723 tons, the Netherlands, with 206.351 tons, Colombia, with 97.733 tons and England with 89.482 tons.
Fruits
The main fruits exported from Chile, in terms of volume, were apples (636.145 T), a growth of 1.8% compared to the previous season; table grapes (536.448 T and -11.2%), cherries (352.474 T and + 54.2%), kiwis (142.778 T and -1.7%), plums (121.213 T and -3.4%), pears (120.460 T and + 6.9% ), blueberries (117.640 T and + 7.7%), mandarins (99.767 T and -19.2%), lemons (96.623 T and + 11.7%) and oranges (93.152 T and -2.2%).
Fruits by destinations
The main fruit shipped to the Far East was cherries (334,566 T). In the US, the ranking led table grapes with 256.945 tons. The apple was the main fruit for Latin America (248.045), Europe (171.083 T), and the Middle East (47.609 T).
Export areas
The five main exporting regions, in descending order, were VI (O'Higgins), VII (Maule), Santiago Metropolitan Region, V (Valparaíso) and IV (Coquimbo) with 29.9%, 25.9%, 12.5%, 11.3 %, and 9.3% of the total sent, respectively.
So far in the new 2021/22 campaign, ASOEX expects to reach volumes very similar to those of this last season.
