Direct consequence of the ravages of the disease PSA, Zespri kiwifruit exports to China will drop by about 25% this season.
Zespri kiwifruit exports will be significantly lower this year.
According to New Zealand Radio, Zespri will only be able to export 7.5 million trays of kiwifruit to China this season. A decrease of 25% of shipments compared to 10 million trays exported last season. China, however, the largest producer of kiwifruit in the world with 800 000 tonnes, imports from New Zealand green kiwi and gold kiwifruit in a 50/50 proportion.
The decline in exports is due to the fall in production caused by the PSA disease. This disease is now present in 2154 New Zealand orchards and 72% of the land of kiwis are identified positive for PSA-V.
