Mixed results for eastern European potato growers

The potato harvest in Poland amounts around 9 million MT, 15% less than in 2005. In the Czech Republic the harvest volume is 34% lower this year. At present, the wholesale prices in Poland are approximately 40% higher than last year. Forecasts of this year's potato harvest in Ukraine foresee a volume of 20,8 million MT, which is 7% more than last year. The volume increase resulted in a price fall of 30 - 40% compared with November 2005.
