The recent storms that hit Ciudad Real (Spain) have left a trail of destruction on several crops in the province, especially in the area of Alameda de Cervera.
Although it is still too early to fully assess the devastation, a notable impact has been seen on vines, cereals, melons and peppers. In particular, in areas such as Las Tintoreras, some farms are reporting losses in excess of 70%, according to reports from the Agricultural Association of Young Farmers (ASAJA).
The storm, which took place in the first week of June, unloaded around 25 litres of water per square metre and was accompanied by heavy hail, severely affecting the vines during their flowering phase. ASAJA points out that many of the affected vines will not be able to recover, anticipating that the effects of this disaster could even be felt next year.
The hail also devastated melon and pepper crops, with significant damage to plants and fruit, many of which were completely destroyed and will not be usable for harvesting.
