Peruvian citrus fruits to increase their presence in Asia and overseas
VU
The Peruvian citrus industry is striving to expand its international presence, particularly in Asia.
This was informed by Christian Barrantes, the Vice Minister of Development of Family Farming and Agrarian Infrastructure and Irrigation, at the XI International Citrus Seminar 2023. Barrantes highlighted several countries of interest, including Vietnam, South Korea, Thailand, Japan, the Philippines, Taiwan, Chile, and New Zealand.
Barrantes also praised Senasa's efforts, which have allowed Peruvian citrus to gain access to 75 export countries. However, despite this progress, only 37 of these destinations were reached last year.
Furthermore, the Peruvian citrus industry is committed to promoting the citrus chain and bolstering agro-exports to stimulate development in the regions where this productive activity takes place. The sector aims to identify new market opportunities and technologies to enhance its competitiveness.
