FERRMED conference 2025 starts today in Brussels
PE | Ferrmed ASBL
The pilot project of the 50 stakeholders’ alliance is presented at the conference for the +FIRRST system implementation in the EU.
Ferrmed association presents today the latest developments with +FIRRST solution, FERRMED's “Fast, Flexible, Integrated System of Transport” which can make possible achievement of the EU's socio-economic and environmental targets for land freight transport. Ferrmed will introduce the new stakeholders' alliance for an international pilot test of +FIRRST. 50 key organizations have already joined the Alliance. The conference also showcases today dual use logistic capabilities in the EU's extended core network across both civil and defense sectors. The main promoters of the stakeholders’ Alliance promoters are Ralf Charley Schultze UIRR Director General, Raluca Marian IRU Director EU Advocacy and General Delegate of the Permanent Delegation to the EU, Joan Amorós FERRMED President, Godfried Smit ESC Secretary General.
The only logistics system that can help EU sustainability objectives
+FIRRST is an integrated combined transport system fully aligned with the road (as the most flexible mode), able to meet in real time the daily demand in all locations: both origin-destination of the transport chain and intermediate transfers. +FIRRST is the only system that can help achieve the European Commission’s modal share targets: the system can move isolated truck semi-trailers, swap-bodies and containers (ILUs) from and to different destinations in a fast, flexible, integrated rail-road system of transport.
A solution for military as well
Recently, the European Union faced critical challenges in military logistics, as existing infrastructure limitations continue to undermine rapid deployment, interoperability, and sustainability. In this context, the FERRMED Study on Traffic and Modal Shift Optimization in the EU presents a comprehensive set of findings and criteria that could significantly contribute, additionally, to the objectives of the “EU Military Mobility Package” (2025–2030). By aligning with the framework of the DG MOVE and the EU Green Deal, FERRMED considers that the study conclusions, the +FIRRST System implementation and the related infrastructure criteria, can also enhance dual-use logistics capabilities across both civil and defense sectors, should the EU institutions choose to adopt them.
