In Qatar sales of local products increased by more than 60% in volume

In addition to diversifying its sources of imports, Qatar is working to strengthen local food production to meet the needs of the inhabitants. In 2020 compared to the previous year, sales of local products reached up to + 66% in volume.
In 2020, significant increase in sales of Qatari vegetables announced the MME (Ministry of Municipality and Environment). Sales of 'Premium Vegetables' reached 4,565 tonnes, compared to 2,740 tonnes in 2019, an increase of around 66%. Sales of 'Qatar Farms' reached 19,000 tonnes compared to 11,506 tonnes in 2019, an increase of around 64%.
MME (Ministry of Municipality and Environment) launched in 2017 and 2018 the 'Premium Qatari Vegetables' and 'Qatar Farms' programs. These programs provide marketing assistance for local farmers who have the opportunity to supply their products to outlets without an intermediary.
The number of farms participating in these 'Premium Qatari Vegetable' and 'Quatar Farms' programs has exceeded 150.
