Pineapple production will increase

Cameroon wants to boost its pineapple production.
New initiative of the "Agropoles" program which aims to increase the local production, to increase the exports.
One of the last projects of the program is devoted to the production and marketing of pineapples. In Kumba, in the south-west of the country, the project will create an additional 118 hectares of pineapple crops and produce 8,600 tons of pineapple per year (1,200 tons before the project).
In Cameroon, pineapple production in 2010 was estimated at 136 800 tonnes. The country exported 12 000 tonnes of pineapples in 2012 and then only 8 000 tonnes in 2013.
World production of pineapples exceeded 24 million tonnes and demand is sustained. In the world ranking of producers, Brazil, Thailand and the Philippines are leading. For Africa, it is Nigeria, Kenya, Ivory Coast and Ghana.
