Banana supply totaled 5.7 million tonnes in the EU in 2021

In the EU, the total supply of bananas shows an upward trend since 2013 according to data from the European Commission which reveals that the volume reached 5,780,871 tonnes in 2021.
The report on the Banana Market in the EU, issued by the services of the European Commission and based on Eurostat data, shows a clear upward trend in the total supply of bananas: 4,412,800 tonnes in 2013 and 5 780,871 tonnes in 2021.
This volume of 5,780,871 tonnes of bananas available in the EU in 2021 comes from European production (638,386 tonnes, or 11%) and imports from Africa-Caribbean-Pacific countries (854,316 tonnes, or 14 .8%) and from Latin America (4,288,169 tonnes, or 74.2%).
In 2021 the 5 main supplier countries of the EU were Ecuador with 1,599,818 tonnes, Colombia with 1,161,824 tonnes, Costa Rica with 1,020,138 tonnes, Côte d'Ivoire with 315,458 tonnes and the Republic Dominican with 263,774 tons
European banana production also followed an upward trend with 645,801 tonnes in 2013, then 826,747 tonnes in 2019, and 854,316 tonnes in 2021.
