India increases customs taxes on nearly thirty American products including apples, nuts, almonds, lentils and chickpeas.
India responds to the taxation of its steel and aluminum products by increasing tariffs on US products, including apples, nuts and almonds.
Indian steel and aluminum products had been taxed upon entry into the United States. Several months later, the Indian government decided to increase tariffs on 28 products from the United States.
These surcharges apply to various products including apples, almonds and nuts, the Central Council for Indirect Taxation and Customs said. This increase in customs duties will be 50% for apples and 120% for nuts.
India is the 2nd largest market for Washington State apples that have gained market share in India at the expense of local apples. According to Indian professionals, with this increase on imported products prices, American apples will be unaffordable for a majority of consumers.
