Maersk Line has stopped bookings for containers between Europe and Asia following lack of capacity after cancellations of vessels from Asia-Europe during the Chinese New Year.
In an unprecedented move for Maersk Line, it has suspended reservations for containers on routes between Europe and Asia until May.
Maersk Line is no longer accepting reservations for containers on routes between Europe and Asia due to a lack of capacity. The shortage stems from a number of cancellations of ships from Asia (westbound) during the Chinese New Year diminishing
capacity available for trips to Asia (eastbound).
Maersk says the action temporary and will return to normal early May. Freight from northern Europe to Asia (eastbound) reached 1,140,392 TEUs in Q4 2011, 8% more than the previous quarter according Container Trades Statistics.
