Chiquita leaves Anvers for Vlissingen (Zeeland Seaports)

The port of Antwerp will see the departure of Chiquita deferring its activities in the Dutch port of Vlissingen ( Zeeland Seaports ).

After more than 30 years of presence in Antwerp, Chiquita will postpone its activities (170 000 tonnes of bananas) in the port of Vlissingen ( the Netherlands) . Vlissingen, the port at the edge of the Westerschelde , is with the port of Terneuzen forming " Zeeland Seaports ."

Chiquita blame a lack of flexibility in the organization of dock work . Not on workers' wages but on the operational aspects . The Antwerp Port Authority have taken note of these criticisms and say they are trying to be both a container port and cargo port , and in order to do so it is necessary to provide the means to achieve it. Negotiations are underway on the status of the port workers.
