Passion fruit production declines in Kenya

Lack of access to loans and disease outbreaks has led to a decline in passion fruit production in Uasin Gishu District.
The area recorded a loss this season following decline in acreage under production from 164 hectares to 150. The situation was made worse due to lack of certified seeds and recommended inputs.
According to an agricultural report, passion fruit production was expected to increase to over 6,000 metric tonnes this season but the projections were not achieved due to disease outbreak and high cost of production.
