The Japan-EU agreement has speeded up the Turkey-Japan talks.
Japan and Turkey will hold working meetings this month to conclude an Economic Partnership Agreement which could then come into force very soon.
Negotiations between the two countries began in December 2014 and have accelerated in recent months, after the tariff reduction agreement signed between Japan and the European Union (our news of 20.12.2018).
Turkey faces European competition for many of its exports to Japan, including fruit. The Japan-EU agreement, which entered into force in February, is a risk for Turkey to see its products at a disadvantage for export to Japan. Negotiations have accelerated and an agreement is expected soon, with possible enforcement in June.
