Italian fruit and vegetables started the year well with exports up and imports down.
Fruitimpresse data indicates an increase in exports and lower imports for fruits and vegetables for the first quarter of 2012. The balance is approximately €332 million, up 2.5% over the previous year.
Italy exported a little over 1 million tons (+1.1%) at a value of €
995 million (-7.9%): vegetables (+3,6%), fresh fruit (+4,6%), dried fruit (+7,8%), nuts (+27,3%) . However, citrus was down (-9,9%).
For imports, Italy received 820,000 tons of fruit and vegetables (-4.3%) for a value of €660 million (-12.4%). Imports fell : vegetables (-6,6%), fresh fruit (-12,3%), tropical fruits (-6,5%), nuts (20,9%), but citrus increased (+37,1%).
