In Afghanistan, grape harvests have increased in volume, up by + 15%, but producers are facing a lack of refrigeration facilities that prevent them from accessing new markets.
In many parts of the country, the production of grapes is very satisfactory, both in quality and quantity. In some regions the total volume is expected to increase by 15% compared to last year. For the Helmand region the total volume produced is expected to exceed 90 000 tonnes (81 000 tonnes last year).
For Afghan farmers, the sector is facing a lack of cold storage facilities that is compromising the opening of new markets for their grapes.
Grapes from Afghanistan are mainly exported to India and Pakistan. According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, the country produced 1.1 million tons of grapes last year.
