The Turkish pear "Karyagdi" doesn't find buyers
MLK
Producers of Antalya 's famous pear " Karyagdi " which grossed 140 million Turkish liras last year, do not find buyers for their products, either on the domestic market and foreign market , even by lowering their price.
The pear , which represents about 25% of the total Turkish pear production of about 413 000 tonnes , is normally exported to Russia , Iraq and Syria, with excellent organoleptic conditions. But the conditions have decreased the demand and 80 percent of the production of Korkuteli region where it is produced mainly , is currently stored in refrigerated rooms.
While the producer sale price is between 1 to 1.5 Turkish lira , the price in Turkish supermarkets sometimes triple , preventing domestic demand to increase.
