Garlic exports decreased by 21% in value

According to local media, between January and November 2021, Peru exported 9,649 tons of garlic for $18 million, showing a decrease of 8% in volume and 21% in value, compared to the same period in 2020.
The average price of the product in the analyzed period was $1.88 per kilogram, being 15% lower than the previous term.
The destination markets were Mexico, with a 50% share, Ecuador, with 26%, and the United States, with 16%.
Mexico has received 4,776 tons for $9 million, 22% less in volume and 40% less in value compared to 2020. In this market, $1.95 per kilo was paid, 24% less than in 2020.
Ecuador has imported 2,463 tons of Peruvian garlic for $2 million, 18% less in volume and 39% less in value compared to the previous period. In this market, garlic was priced at $1.01 per kilogram (-26%).
The third largest market was the United States, receiving 1,510 tons for $4 million, +151% in volume and +174% in value compared to 2020. The average price in the United States for Peruvian garlic was $3.15 (+9 %).
