Russia
Wednesday 20 June 2007
Orange market jumped up to 1,05 US$/kg for Moroccan Valencia in Saint-Petersburg and even higher in Moscow. Prices for the rest of Egyptian good quality stuff followed - from 0,82 US$/kg in the south of Russia. Here and there a few fresh Navels from Argentina were offered at 1,10 US$/kg about.
Traders have got used to the quality level from Argentina but quantity on the market was too large for keeping the prices high. Lemons go further down - 0,96 US$/kg in week 24, available everywhere and some further arrivals are seen as well which is not making the situation optimistic, moreover that sales are stopped all over the country.
Despite of improving, quality prices for mandarins went down in week 24 due to large quantities available. Even South African fruit, traditionally more expensive, were offered cheaper than a week before - 1,34 US$/kg. Argentine and Uruguayan mandarins, the last ones had positive reference from Moscow's market, stayed between 1,15 - 1,20 US$/kg only.
