Brazilian agribusiness sells more to the Middle East

The Arab nation bought 131.5% more Brazilian agricultural and livestock products in September
Brazilian agribusiness had revenues of US$ 633 million with sales to the Middle East in September this year. The Emirates expanded their purchases by 131.5%.
Brazilian agribusiness had 8.9% greater export revenues with sales to the Middle East in September this year when compared to the same month in 2008. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, sector sales to the region generated US$ 633 million and stood out, in the period, due to their performance.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, one of the countries that had the greatest weight in this growth among the nations in the Middle East was the United Arab Emirates. The Arab nation bought 131.5% more Brazilian agricultural and livestock products in September.
In general, agribusiness exports dropped in the month. They fell 15.6% when compared to September last year, to US$ 5.7 billion. However, many sectors had a positive performance. This was the case of the sugar and alcohol complex, whose foreign sales advanced 28.6%, and of the tea and spice sector, which had growth of 11%.
The exports of other products that grew included beekeeping products, 4.3%, grain, flower and their products, 4%, and tobacco and its products, 2%. Important sectors to the country, like meats, the soy complex, forestry products and coffee dropped.
In the accumulated result for the last twelve months, Brazilian agribusiness and livestock exports reached US$ 65.8 billion. The value is 7.1% lower than in the twelve previous months. The sector, however, presented a surplus of US$ 56.01 billion in the period.
