On January 3, an intense rain and hail storm broke out in areas of the Upper Valley of Río Negro and Neuquén in Argentina. Although the extent of the damage is not yet known, it has been reported that the most impacted areas until 9 p.m. of the same day were Roca and Villa Regina, experiencing hail and heavy rain.
According to the Fruit Growing Secretariat of Río Negro, on January 4, technicians began a tour of the affected areas to evaluate the magnitude of the damage to the fruit farms. Since the pear and apple fruits have already reached a considerable size, it is feared that the intense hail has caused significant damage in these affected regions.
Throughout the night, threats of storms persisted in the areas of Cipolletti, Cinco Saltos and San Patricio del Chañar. However, these productive areas were reportedly not affected by the storm, providing a momentary respite amid weather concerns for local producers.
