Cooperative Origine Cévennes released its 2015 calendar that allows you to discover the spectacular scenery of the territory of Sweet Onion.
The culture of the Cevennes Sweet Onion is perfectly suited to the physical characteristics of the southern slope of the Cevennes : sandy, acidic and draining ; dry climate, warm and sunny ; small plots and rugged that man has made ??cultivable by building terraces.
The Sweet Onion is sown in nurseries in February , and then transplanted in May. After its hand harvesting in August , began the patient preparation which will give it its beautiful pearly dress, shiny by the fineness tunics ( outer skin) . It is characterized by a melting texture and a sweet taste. It can be eaten both raw and cooked .
First onion in Europe to benefit from an AOC since October 2003 and a PDO ( protected designation of origin ) since July 2008.
