Russia
Wednesday 09 April 2008
The beginning of April was very active all over the country despite of citrus fruits started to concede their leadership to deciduous fruits. In the south the activity from Turkey has gone significantly down due to end of the season, Israel was active only with vegetables, Egypt therefore remained to be the main player there with oranges and new crop potatoes.
As for the arrivals to Saint-Petersburg the most active origin was Argentina with 10,300 pallets – 7,100 pears and 3,200 apples, then Morocco with 7,000 pallets and Chile with 4,400 pallets (3,750 grapes!), Egypt with 2,250 pallets. South Africa was brought by containers only. Thus deciduous fruits in week 13 were more in demand than citruses but the real leadership belonged to vegetables which sales increased a lot, partly due to Orthodox Lent period.
