After flooding in producing areas, India banned onion exports. A modification of the regulations has just intervened authorizing again the export.
The Indian government has made an amendment to the onion export policy. DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade) tweeted that export was now allowed for pink onions from Bangalore and onions from Krishnapuram in quantities of up to 10,000 tonnes each.
Export of pink onions from Bangalore and export of onions from Krishnapuramne will only be permitted from the port of Chennai and exports must be completed by March 31, 2021.
Last month, India banned the export of all varieties of onions except those that are cut, sliced or powdered. "The export of all varieties of onions ... is prohibited with immediate effect," the DGFT said in a notification. At that time, the ban also included pink onions from Bangalore and onions from Krishnapuram.
