According to the Committee in charge of establishing the degree of maturity of fruits, Lamas lemons and Washington oranges can be exported from November 2. This is the same date as last year when the first of the Meyer and Enterdonato lemons variety were exported much earlier than the previous season on a very good market with good prices.
The variety of Lamas lemons grown mainly in the southeast of Turkey and constitute the bulk of exports of Turkish lemons, mainly in the Russian market. Oranges are also going mainly to the Russian market but Turkish exporters are trying to diversify their markets, mainly in Asia and the Middle East, since the events of November 2015, which had led Russia to put an embargo on Turkish fruits and vegetables . The Russian imports have actually fallen drastically in 2016.
This variety is also the one being the most in competition with Spanish lemons. However, a few lemons shipments have been arrested in the Greek and Roman borders because of high pesticide levels and the EU are ready to take additional control measures.
