Continuing strikes in France cause little disruption

Fresh produce firms report little or no problems caused by French rail strike.
Having already experienced considerable delays on its railways due to an eight-day strike over pension reform, France was today reeling from the effects of sabotage to large sections of the countrys high-speed railway network.
Although most railway workers and Paris transport workers have returned to work, strikes continue, and negotiations are set to resume today in order to bring an end to the dispute.
However, despite the chaos surrounding commuters, the disruption to the transport network has had a negligible effect on the supply of fruit and vegetables in the country.
Pierre Aguerre of kiwifruit and asparagus grower Prim'land, which is based in the southwest area of Labatut, commented: "There has been no effect on our business activities, since our clients are supplied by independent transport companies. There may be some localised problems concerning supply, with some retailers affected, but this has been limited to the Paris region."
A spokesman from Del Gaudio Group, based near Paris, also stated that the strikes had had no impact on business, due to the company's use of independent transport firms.
