Drones to help potato growers
FJ
In the state of Oregon, some drones will be tested to help potato producers.
Small remote controlled aircrafts will fly over the potato fields in the region of Hermiston. Equipped with sophisticated photographic equipment, they will be able to make enlargements on the leaves of plants. The shots will reveal any abnormalities before they are visible to people on the ground.
Early diagnosis will allow growers to act quickly, make better use of fertilizers and pesticides, and better manage water needs.
The test will start with 2 drones. A HawkEye (weighing 8 pounds) will be used on 50 acres of a research station; a Unicorn (weighing 6 pounds), on 1,000 hectares of private farms.
