Mangos buried in Lambayeque due to overproduction

More than 2,500 mango growers in Lambayeque have been affected by falling prices and oversupply.
In Lambayeque, Peru, approximately 2,000 tons of mango have been buried due to overproduction, a measure implemented by the National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa) to prevent the spread of the fruit fly. According to Félix Bobadilla, executive director of Senasa in the region, up to 8,000 tons are expected to be buried during the 2024-2025 season.
More than 2,500 mango growers in Lambayeque have been affected by falling prices and oversupply. The most affected districts include Jayanca, Motupe, Olmos and Chóchope, where Senasa brigades are constantly working to remove and bury the fruit, as well as applying toxic baits and monitoring possible pests to protect other crops.
