Mangoe prices double

In Pakistan the price of mangoes has increased by 100% from last year and is expected to remain high throughout the season.
The Vegetable Wholesale Market Welfare Association found that the price of a pack of 10 kgs of mangoes has increased from 150 to 300 rupees (2.44 €) as 20% lower harvests have been met with strong international demand.
The export of mangoes has just begun and the demand is huge. Exporters have received orders for over 250,000 tons.
Pakistani mangoes are usually exported to Europe and the Middle East. Demand from Russia and the opening of the U.S. market scheduled for next month will also help kee prices high.
Mango is the most consumed fresh fruit in the world and is the national fruit in Pakistan, India and the Philippines. World production is 17 million tonnes with Pakistan producing about 1.4 million tonnes.
