CMA CGM continues the dynamic launched in 2016 with a strong increase in its performances. Volumes and revenues were up sharply in the first quarter of 2017. For the first time and less than a year after its acquisition, APL contributed positively to the results.
In the first quarter of 2017, volumes transported increased sharply by 34.2% compared to the 1st quarter of 2016 thanks to the integration of APL. The group's turnover rose sharply by 35.9% compared to the first quarter of 2016, to USD 4.6 billion. CMA CGM recorded an operating margin of 5.5% to USD 252 million, a significant increase compared to the first quarter of 2016. The Group posted consolidated net income of USD 86 million.
Since the 1st of April, the largest operational maritime alliance, OCEAN ALLIANCE, of which CMA CGM is the major player, has entered into service. The 40 maritime services integrated in this alliance, as well as the additional logistical and intermodal solutions proposed by the Group, enable CMA CGM and its subsidiaries, including APL, to offer a unique range of transport solutions that is a great success.
