Considering normal growing conditions and stable demand from the U.S, Mexico's tomato production in the campaign 2022/23 would maintain its current output totaling 3.7 million tons, according to a recent GAIN report from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
In order to achieve higher yields, growers continue to switch from open fields to more controlled production under protected cultivation methods.
The main producing states in Mexico are Sinaloa, San Luis Potosi, Michoacan, Baja California Sur, Puebla, Zacatecas, Morelos, and Jalisco.
Compared to the campaign 2021/22, tomato exports are expected to increase from 1.7 million tons to 1.9 million tons. The country will continue to be the largest exporter of fresh tomatoes to the U.S and throughout the world.
