The Moroccan government has announced a support program to mitigate the impact of drought and the global economic situation on agricultural activity.
Local media report the signing of an agricultural support program between the Moroccan government and representatives of various professional organizations. The total amount reaches 10 billion MAD (997.7 million USD), of which 5 billion MAD (498.8 million USD) will be allocated to barley and animal feed subsidies, and 4 billion MAD (399 million USD) to support sectors and reduce the cost of production of certain basic vegetables.
The program includes MAD 1 billion (USD 99.7 million) to subsidize tomato seed and seedlings, MAD 580 million (USD 57.8 million) to subsidize certified potato seed, and MAD 120 million (USD 11.9 million) to subsidize onion seed.
In addition to support for seed purchases, the program also includes a MAD 2.3 billion (USD 229.4 million) subsidy for fertilizers, whose prices have risen sharply due to the international context.
