Germany recorded in 2022 a variation of -11.63% in the volume of vegetables produced by the country's farms.
According to Destatis, the Federal Statistical Office, in 2022 around 6,100 farms in Germany harvested a total of 3.8 million tonnes of vegetables. That is a variation of -11.63% compared to 2021 and -2% compared to the average for the years 2016 to 2021.
Destatis points out that in 2021 a historic record was reached with 4.3 million tonnes of vegetables. Compared to 2021, the area cultivated with vegetables in 2022 varied by -4% to reach just over 126,400 hectares.
With the decrease in surface areas, the heat and drought of the summer of 2022 explain this drop in yields for German vegetable production.
