Colombia trains fresh-vegetable exporters on overseas requirements

Around 180 growers, packers, exporters, pest monitors and technical specialists have taken part in fresh-vegetable export training in Colombia’s Valle del Cauca, the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) reported.

Sessions were held in Tuluá, Bugalagrande, Roldanillo and Caicedonia and focused on current regulations and the conditions fresh vegetables must meet before they can be shipped abroad. Students and technical assistants also joined the programme.

The United States and European Union are the main destinations for fresh vegetables exported from Valle del Cauca, according to ICA. The authority is using the training to improve compliance with the phytosanitary conditions required by those markets and strengthen coordination across the export chain.
