Argentina updates fruit export teams on quarantine pest controls

Training in Río Negro and Neuquén covers inspection posts as well as US and Brazilian export programmes.
Argentina’s SENASA and agricultural research institute INTA have started a new training programme for staff working at phytosanitary checkpoints and in fresh-fruit export programmes in Río Negro and Neuquén, according to SENASA.
One part of the programme deals with a basic but important inspection task: identifying dormant fruit species at border and control posts. A second section moves into pest management, including codling moth (Cydia pomonella), flight patterns, mating disruption, hail-net use and drones in plant-health work.
Other regulated pests discussed included Pseudococcus viburnii
, Grapholita and Monosteira unicostata, particularly in relation to requirements in the Mexican and US markets.
The sessions also reviewed phytosanitary findings from the 2025/26 season, Brazil’s risk-mitigation system for fresh-fruit shipments and the work plan used for exports to the US. SENASA and INTA will use the programme to identify further training needs and agree on joint areas of work.
