South Korea expects stable pear supply for Chuseok

Pear production in South Korea is expected to remain around normal levels this year, supporting relatively stable supply and prices during the Chuseok period, MAFRA said after inspecting harvest and packing operations in Naju.

The ministry linked the outlook to a decline in physiological disorders and pest and disease problems compared with earlier concerns. Pears harvested in Naju were already being sorted and prepared for shipment at a regional agricultural products centre when officials visited.

Heat remains a risk until harvest is complete. MAFRA advised growers to manage irrigation closely and use fine-spray systems where available to reduce high-temperature damage, including in orchards where fruit is grown in bags.
