Costa Rica's maritime exports to China will be able to go from 39 days to just 23 days, a gain of 16 days.
COMEX, the Ministry of Foreign Trade, PROCOMER, Costa Rica's foreign trade promotion agency and the COSCO Shipping Lines logistics company are evaluating the creation of a new direct route between the ports of Moín and Shanghai, reducing the shipping time to China from 39 days to just 23 days.
The new route was launched with three pilot plans. The first cargo left Moín on September 23 with 31 containers of pineapple and bananas, among other products, and arrived in Shanghai on October 16th. The next expeditions to Shanghai are scheduled by COSCO Shipping Lines for the end of October and the month of November.
According to PROCOMER Costa Rica exported $194.4 million to China in 2018. This new Moin-Shanghai direct link could significantly increase exports to China but also to other Asian markets (Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea ...).
