Mercabarna has launched Clúster Export

Wholesale market of Barcelona launches a pole for export.

The Advisor of agriculture of the region and the market director presided over the inaugural act of Clúster Mercabarna Export. This Clúster aims to facilitate the opening of new markets and promote the export of Catalan companies.

Clúster Mercabarna Export already has 30 members (companies of wholesale market or outside, food sector, logistics sector, research sector companies). As to the Advisor of agriculture, it is quite necessary that small and medium enterprises to open up in foreign markets. The Cluster will provide support and advice for this internationalization.

The agri-food sector is dynamic in Catalunya, companies in the region exported in 2012 for EUR 7.914 million, or 14.5% more than in 2011 and 45% more than in 2009. The wholesale market Mercabarna which includes 700 companies and 23 000 people, provides fresh produce to nearly 10 million consumers. Its sphere of influence is vast: Catalunya, northern region of Valencian Community, part of the Aragó region, the Balearic Islands, Andorra, southern France and northern Italy.
