These 8 associations, operating on all continents, form the new global coalition.
To address the rising costs of producing and marketing fresh produce, 8 associations have decided to form a global coalition that will voice the industry's concerns and propose common solutions.
These 8 associations, forming the new global coalition, operate on all continents:
.Afruibana (West Africa)
.China Chamber of Commerce of I/E of Foods Stuffs, Native Produce and Animal By-Products (China),
.ColeACP (African, Caribbean and Pacific countries),
.Copa Cogeca (European Union),
.Canadian Produce Marketing Association - CPMA (Canada),
.International Fresh Produce Association - IFPA (USA),
.Freshfel Europe (European Union),
.Southern Hemisphere Association of Fresh Fruit Exporters - SHAFFE (Latin America, Oceania, South Africa).
The coalition has identified a series of key challenges that all operators in the Fruit & Vegetable sector worldwide are currently facing. These concerns include rising costs of logistics, inputs, fertilisers, packaging materials, energy, supply chain delays and a general labour shortage. As well as additional implications arising from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on supply chains.
The coalition will work together to raise concerns publicly and seek to establish multi-stakeholder dialogues with key policy makers and the supply chain, including the shipping and retail sectors. The coalition will also seek to raise consumer awareness of the issue while promoting the importance and value of fresh produce in terms of its contribution to public health.
Through the combined efforts of its members, the coalition hopes to gain recognition for Fruit & Vegetables as an essential public good and plans to support initiatives that promote a sustainable and economically viable fresh produce sector.
